In the New Year, the Learning Enhancement and Support Team will be delivering another series of ‘TEL Lunches’ on the technologies available at HYMS to enhance Teaching, Learning and Assessment. This series includes an Assessment and Marking workshop delivered at HYMS Hospital sites to support peripheral staff during key assessment periods.

These sessions will be delivered throughout term 2 – a free lunch will be provided!

TEL Lunches: Stimulating Participation in Lectures

Tuesday 29th March, 12.30pm-1.30pm – Hull
Venue: Loxley First Floor Meeting Room

The traditional lecture is often criticised for being a passive learning experience for students. This workshop explores how student response systems such as TurningPoint Cloud can facilitate student engagement with each other, the subject content and the lecturer.

You can use TurningPoint Cloud to:

  • Reinforce concepts and ideas
  • Provides real-time evaluation of student comprehension
  • Recall previously covered materials (flipped classroom/learning)
  • Allow students to monitor their own progress
  • Facilitate improved communication between students, their peers and the lecturer.

You will experience first-hand how to use the system, as well as hearing some best practice techniques from tutors who are already using it. To fully participate in this session, we recommend you download the TurningPoint app (called Responseware) to your mobile device. It is available on both iOS and Android devices.

TEL Lunches: Flipped Classroom (Theory)

Tuesday 18th April, 12.30pm-1.30pm – Hull
Venue: Loxley First Floor Meeting Room

Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter (Flipped Learning Network, 2016). In this session we will look at how Flipped Learning can be applied to the curriculum at HYMS and what technologies are available to support it.

TEL Lunches: Flipped Classroom (Practical)

Thursday 11th May, 12.30pm-1.30pm – York
Venue: York First Floor Meeting Room

Following on from the Flipped Classroom theory session, in this workshop we will take a more detailed look at the technologies available at HYMS to support the flipped classroom model. This will include personal lecture capture, Blackboard quizzes and TurningPoint Cloud.

You can register for a session using the sign-up tool in the Tutors Area in BlackboardIf you would like to suggest any ideas for future TEL Lunches, then please email us:
