Throughout Spring, the Learning Enhancement and Support Team will be delivering a series of lunchtime workshops titled ‘TEL Lunches’. Starting in April, join us at lunchtime to explore some of the tools and technologies available at HYMS to enhance Teaching, Learning and Assessment. These sessions will be delivered during the last week of the month at both York and Hull – lunch will be provided!
TEL Lunches: Stimulating Participation in Lectures
Tuesday 26th April, 12.30pm-1.30pm – York First Floor Meeting Room
HYMS alongside the University of York are currently piloting a student polling/response system called TurningPoint Cloud. In this session we will look at and discuss how TurningPoint Cloud can facilitate student engagement in large lectures. You will experience first-hand how to use the system, as well as hearing some best practice techniques from tutors who are already using it. To fully participate in this session, we recommend you download the TurningPoint (Responseware) app to your mobile device. It is available on both iOS and Android devices.
TEL Lunches: Assessment Workflows in Blackboard
Tuesday 24th May, 12.30pm-1.30pm – Hull Loxley 2nd Floor Meeting Room
This session will explore the electronic management of assessments in Blackboard. From creating assignment submission areas to enter grades and feedback in the grade centre, we will explore and discuss how Blackboard can support and streamline the assessment process.
TEL Lunches: Flipped Classroom
Wednesday 29th June, 12.30pm-1.30pm – York First Floor Meeting Room
Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter (Flipped Learning Network, 2016). In this session we will look at how Flipped Learning can be applied to the curriculum at HYMS and what technologies are available to support it.
